Damn, this was a good short film (Yes, I consider it to be one). Everything from the story, to the animation, to the voice acting was perfect, but what really stood out to me was the characters. In a sea of what is usually disgusting or outright evil characters (both in real life and in MeatCanyon's videos), Melvin is both sweet and incredibly human. Angela (who is ironically nothing like an angel) initially looks to be nice, but is instead a jerk to Melvin, befriending the parasitic worm before even asking Melvin if he's okay. On a similar note, the worm was a selfish, manipulative scumbag. There's no defending a character as deplorable as that filthy worm. He didn't need Melvin to survive, he just favored his music, and was willing to entice a doctor to his suicide to maintain his nasty satisfaction. This all illustrates the age old idea that appearances can be deceiving and that although humanity can be hard to find, it can always resurface in the unlikeliest of places. We need more people like Melvin.
Thank you.
